True it's not a traditional job board but being part of MBO means getting on the 'vendor list' for thousands of companies, and that's more than half the battle in trying to work as an independent contractor or consultant -- getting your vendor quals and having a contract to get into a big company are critical. The site has been redone and they are now operating under the name MBO Partners. Looks like their system is still called MyBizOffice. Hope that helps.

As with any Market Place Elance takes time and effort to learn how to use it properly and effectively. Elance allowed me to move from a part time freelancer to a full time freelancer in 2007. I am continuing to do that on elance in 2008.

I get over 75% of my business through this channel. Two of my clients over a year old have migrated off of Elance.

They have systems in place to protect Providers though the use of Escrow based project similar to other market place sites. But both Providers and Buyers must recognize that quality control in the marketplace comes first from honest ethical Buyers and Sellers / Providers working together.

Elance management honestly is working to make the site better and is establishing a Users Council.

MyBizOffice: Not a traditional job board, really great tho

MyBizOffice isn't really a traditional job board, though. It's more for independent consultants and contractors that already have client connections and potential jobs lined up, people who are very experienced and have developed their skills. That said, this is really the best way to work as a freelancer.

When my employer wanted to turn me into a contractor, I wasn't fully prepared for all that would mean. MBO made it easy to get benefits, set up a contract with my former employer, and also contract with other clients. The Errors and Omissions insurance more than made up for the admin fee charged on my billings. Besides, not having to handle my own invoicing . . . and collections! -- has been really great.

Try it, you'll like it.

With MyBizOffice -- or MBO -- I've found many ways to minimize my tax liability through its Profit Sharing plan, 401(k) plan, and expense reimbursement program. This program reimburses me real-time, so the IRS doesn't get to keep my money all year. Plus, it really simplifies my tax return....
